Paper >>> Fashion

Paper cutting... correctly known as Papel Picado, is the Mexican art of papercutting into elaborate designs. The designs are usually cut from tissue paper, and themes are most commonly birds, floral designs and skeletons (my favourite). Time and practice is a necessity for paper cutting, but if you have the passion for it then amazing things can be created, as seen below.

Whilse researching for a current assignment where I will be experimenting with laser cutting for interiors, i have taken inspiration from a number of fashion designers who have been inspired themselves by Papel Picado, to create similar looks from laser cut fabrics on the catwalk.
